2017 Head of the Yarra
Event information
Dear Dragons,
The time has come (yet again) to think about whether you'd like to compete in this year's edition of Australia's rowing classic, the Head of the Yarra. Each year, the event is organised by Hawthorn Rowing Club and all crews are required to complete an 8600m head race beginning at Alexandra Gardens (across the Yarra River from Rod Laver Arena) and finishing at Hawthorn Rowing Club. This year, the event will be taking place on 25th November.
This year's crew selection process is similar to last year's selection process in that competitors will have to complete and submit scores for monthly 30 minute ergos through to September and these scores will be assessed, along with each competitor's technical ability, by the Club Captain and Club Vice-Captain in consultation with the Club Coaches. A document outlining the selection process will be posted to this event page in the next couple of days.
The finer details such as boat transport and options for accommodation will be ironed out in the coming months. I will get in touch with Astina Apartments and ascertain whether they are keen to set aside a group booking for Dragons.
If you'd like to participate in the Head of the Yarra, please register via Revolutionise before 31st July by responding to the invitations sent around. When registering, you will be required to indicate what your crew preference is (i.e. single-sex, mixed or flexible). We are always interested in maximising the number of participants in each event so it would be fantastic if everyone could put flexible!
Kind regards,
John Dickson
Club Captain
