Event information

This event is sold out.

Our transition program is designed for adults (27 years and over) who have developed the basic skills taught in a Learn to Row course or equivalent.  The course provides an opportunity to train with other novice rowers and learn to work as a team, improving your rowing and crewing skills as you gain confidence and enjoyment with each session.

Rowing is a highly technical sport that requires months of dedicated technique training and a moderate to high level of fitness and personal discipline. It is not a sport that can be learned quickly - our Transition Program will provide continuous reinforcement and stroke correction to get you on the right track.

The program will develop and refine your rowing and boat handling skills progressively through the 10 weeks.  By the end of the course (10 water sessions and 9 land (ergo) sessions), you will be proficient at the sport to a level where you can understand and react to how the boat behaves, identify faults and start the process of fault correction on your own.   You should also, at the end of the program, be at a stage where you feel confident to row unsupervised/coached crew as part of a crew.

We will cover both sculling and sweep rowing throughout the program. We endeavor to group rowers based on their level of experience to make the process as beneficial for you as possible.

You will be coached by a team of Level 1 and Level 2 certified coaches.

The program will run from October 11 through to December 15.  We will train each week on Thursday nights 6-7pm and on the water on Saturdays 7.30am-9.30am.

Note: there will be no training Thursday 22/11.

The Transition program costs $160 (includes Rowing Queensland Registration/Insurance).

This can be paid by EFT into Dragons bank account:

Please note:  Membership of our club is by invitation only. We aim to maintain a club that is both competitively and socially rewarding for our members, and therefore look for both technical and cultural fit when choosing members of our club.  Participants who progress through the Transition Program to a standard where they can row unsupervised/coached on the water in a crew by the end of the sessions will usually be ready for membership.
